Washer Dryer

Washer Dryer Buying Guide

If you’re looking to make the most of limited space in your home, a washer dryer is the perfect way to help keep your clothes clean, fresh, and dry – all in one appliance. With a range of designs, capacities, and styles to choose from, there’s a washer dryer to suit every household.

Does it suit my needs?

Trying to find a genius solution to your space-saving dilemmas can be a struggle. Trust us, we know. But finding the right kitchen appliance to suit all your needs and making the most of the space in your home, however big or small, doesn’t have to be difficult. Have you ever considered a washer dryer? It could help you to reach that ‘eureka’ moment you’ve been waiting for. Not only will your smaller space no longer be a limitation, you will feel as though you have boosted your living area to its maximum potential.

Unlike vented tumble dryers, washer dryers use a condenser tumble dryer and consequently do not need to have access to an external wall in order to function. All they need is an electrical and a water supply. This really opens up your potential location options when planning where to place the washer dryer.

Does it have the right capacity?

For all washer dryers, including Beko washer dryers, the drying capacity is lower than the washing capacity, so an 8kg/5kg washer dryer can wash 8kg and dry 5kg. Beko has a wide range of models to choose from, with capacities ranging from 7kg wash & 5kg dry to 9kg wash & 6kg dry so rest assured you can find the ideal washer dryer capacity for your family.

Why do washer dryers have different washing and drying capacities?

The answer is really quite simple, and it’s all to do with the drying cycle. During the course of a drying cycle, there needs to be sufficient space in the drum of the appliance to allow for the appropriate amount of air to circulate. This makes it possible for your clothes to dry. Meanwhile, this requirement does not affect the washing cycle at all, which explains why if you were to place a washing machine and a tumble dryer - both with the same capacities- side by side, you would be able to easily see that the drum of the tumble dryer is actually bigger than that of the washing machine.

Always remember there needs to be enough space in the drum to allow for air to circulate, so make sure you don’t fill the machine completely when choosing drying programmes or continuous washing and drying programmes, otherwise the clothes won’t dry properly.

Freestanding or Integrated?

If you're looking to install your washer dryer in an empty space, under a counter or in the laundry room, a freestanding model is an excellent option for you. Be sure to make a note of the dimensions of the area you're planning on adding a washer dryer to, to ensure a smooth fitting process. On the other hand, an integrated washer dryer can fit seamlessly into any kitchen, hidden behind a cupboard door to match the rest of your cabinetry. Perfect for those wanting to pursue a more modern look in their home.

Washer Dryer Programmes and Functions

Our washer dryers have 16 main programmes for various clothing types and give you the best washing and drying performance for your laundry.

All of our washer dryers include a child lock function to prevent the accidental changing of washing programmes by curious little hands!

If you need to wash in a hurry, Beko washer dryers feature the Daily Quick programme that can wash a full load of laundry in just 28 minutes. Waiting around for your washing is now a thing of the past especially with our Super Short programme which means you can wash a small 2kg load in just 14 minutes.

The Anti-Allergy Wash&Dry programme, endorsed by Allergy UK, helps reduce the amount of allergens, like cat, dog and pollen allergens, as well as bacteria and fungi, making it ideal for households with allergy or asthma sufferers.

All drying programmes use sensors to detect the moisture level in your laundry. This helps to work out when your clothes are ready, making sure that they are perfect at the end of the cycle – not damp and not over-dried. This also helps to save energy on top of offering an overall enhanced protection for your clothes. Alternatively, there are Timed Drying options which let you be in complete control over how long you would prefer for your dryer to run for.

If you are pressed for time and frequently use the same wash or drying programme, the Memory Function (available on the WDA914401W model) enables your washer dryer to quickly recall your favourite personalised programme settings so that you don’t have to.

Continuous Washing and Drying

Beko washer dryers offer a range of combined washing and drying programmes, like the 5kg Wash & Dry. This programme washes and dries a 5kg load without pausing in between cycles. Whereas the Wash & Wear programme washes and dries a small load in up to an hour; a 0.5 kg load is washed and dried in 40 min and a 1kg load in 60 minutes.

Also, there is a drying function that can be applied to most of the washing programmes to turn them into continuous washing and drying cycles. Since you don’t have to manually select the drying programme when the wash cycle is complete, this option makes using your washer dryer simple and easy.

What latest technologies should I be looking out for?

Direct Air Cool Technology

This technology, available on the WDA914401 Beko model, uses an innovative drying technology which doesn’t need water to cool the condenser. By simply using air, this technique can significantly reduce water bills; saving around 7,500 litres of water a year – that’s enough to fill 95 bath tubs!

Energy Efficiency

Beko’s EcoSmart washer dryers are rated A for energy. Verified by the Energy Savings Trust, an EcoSmart washer dryer will offer great washing and drying performance whilst consuming as little energy as possible. Not only could one of these washer dryers save you energy, it’ll save you money too.

ProSmart Inverter Motor

This brushless motor provides a more reliable operation that is quieter and more energy efficient. And it comes with a 10 year warranty, for guaranteed peace of mind.

Here are some energy saving tips for you:

  • Bio detergents are more effective at lower temperatures (30-50°C) so if you frequently opt for these, a lower temperature wash will not only save you money but will also enable the enzymes in the detergent to wash your laundry more effectively.
  • Select the highest spin speed recommended during the washing process as this will remove more water during the washing cycle as well as save you time and money during the drying cycle.

Maintenance and Safety Advice

  • Have your washer dryer properly installed by a professional, ensuring it is level and placed on a floor that isn’t carpeted. The non-carpeted surface enables airflow beneath the machine.
  • Make sure the water supply and draining hoses are securely fastened and remain undamaged.
  • Never open the loading door or remove the pump filter while there is still water in the drum. Doing this leads to a risk of flooding and injury from hot water.
  • Always check the labels of your clothing to make sure the best wash cycle is chosen and to double check they are suitable for drying in a dryer.
  • Garments or pillows bolstered with rubber foam (latex foam), shower bonnets, water resistant textiles, materials with rubber reinforcement and rubber foam pads should not be dried in the washer dryer.
  • Items like underwired bras or any other underwear containing metal reinforcements should not be tumble dried as this can damage the machine if they come loose.
  • Always check all pockets for items such as lighters and coins before placing them in the dryer.
  • Do not allow children to operate the washer dryer, or let them play near, sit on, or climb into the machine.
  • Clean the detergent drawer regularly to prevent the build-up of mould and bad smells.
