Heat Pump Tumble Dryer Technology: Some Key Facts
1 It's better for your health and general hygiene of your home
Leaving your laundry out to dry indoors can be inconvenient and time-consuming – especially for large households. And according to new research* it also poses a health risk to those prone to allergies, asthma and hay fever by raising the moisture levels in the air. This can also lead to dust-mite growth which no one wants in their home.
2 You’re not relying on the weather
You can’t always predict the weather in the UK, especially during autumn/winter, which is why tumble dryers are the more reliable choice. Plus it still takes quite a bit of time for your clothes to dry outside, not ideal if you need to wash and dry items last minute (e.g. if you’re packing the night before a holiday).
3 It’s quicker (ideal for larger households)
If you need to dry large loads in minimal time, a heat pump tumble dryer will dry your clothes a lot faster than hanging them up to dry.
4 Convenient if you don’t have a garden
For those living in small city apartments without any outside space, drying your laundry can be tricky – unless you want to hang your clothes on every radiator, curtain rail and door in your home! So a heat pump tumble dryer in the home makes sense.
5 It needn’t cost the earth
Buying a tumble dryer with Heat Pump Technology can help you save on energy costs. When you replace your C-rated tumble dryer, you get every second year energy cost for free.*

All About Heat Pump Technology
What is it?
Heat pump technology helps conserve energy and has been used in Switzerland and Germany for about 13 years. While conventional tumble dryers release the hot air used to dry to clothes, heat pump technology conserves and reuses it.
Why is it a good idea?
Heat pump tumble dryers are much better for the environment and cheaper to run, with heat pump technology using almost 50% of the energy used by conventional models (C-rated). They aren’t any noisier either. Moreover, since it uses an energy efficient heat exchange system, the air temperature inside the drum is considerably lower than conventional dryers, which provides a better protection for clothes.
How does it work?
Your heat pump tumble dryer uses hot air to absorb moisture from your clothes in order to get them dry after a wash. After this air passes through the drum, it goes through the evaporator which removes the moisture, which is collected as condensation and stored into a tank. The remaining air is re-heated and sent back to the drum to start the cycle again and continue drying your clothes.
To get the best out of your machine, make sure the filters and the evaporator are cleaned regularly (check your manual for instructions).
How do they compare?
Using a lower temperature to dry the load, a Heat Pump tumble dryer offers better protection for your clothes. Whilst it takes slightly longer to dry a load compared to a standard condenser dryer, it can help you significantly reduce your energy consumption. It takes an A++ Heat Pump dryer approximately 5 minutes extra to dry a 1 kg load, but it uses less than half the energy of a B-rated condenser dryer.
This is based on drying 1 kg of laundry in Beko condenser and Heat Pump tumble dryers.
The duration and energy consumptions can vary depending on the moisture and type of load.
