How to clean a dishwasher

Regularly cleaning your dishwasher is the best way of keeping your appliance in top condition. We’ve put together this handy guide to help you maintain your Beko dishwasher. Follow these simple instructions to keep your dishwasher clean, hygienic and ready for use.

How often should you clean a dishwasher?

It’s important to clean your dishwasher regularly. Whilst we suggest you deeply clean your machine every few months, the frequency of your cleaning should depend on how often your dishwasher is used. Your cleaning routine will also depend on the level of soiling on your dishes and the quantity of dishes you are washing. By regularly cleaning your machine, you can prevent the build of limescale, bacteria and odours, ensuring perfectly hygienic, fresh dishes.

How to clean your dishwasher filter

The filter prevents food and foreign objects from recirculating onto plates and other crockery. It is located at the bottom of your machine and should be cleaned once a week, or whenever it becomes clogged, to ensure excellent cleaning results.

  1. Remove the drain filters. The filters are located at the bottom of your dishwasher, underneath the bottom basket.
  2. Clear any food residues on and inside the filters by running them under a tap.
  3. Install the metal/plastic filter.
  4. Place the coarse filter into the micro filter. Make sure that it is properly enclosed. Turn the coarse filter clockwise until it clicks.
  5. Check the filter once per week.

How to clean your dishwasher's exterior.

To clean your machine’s exterior, wipe the outer surface and doors seals gently with a slightly damp cloth. For a deep clean, run an inner cleaning or Intensive programme with no dishes inside.

General dishwasher cleaning tips:

  • Use a suitable wash programme. To prevent bad odours, make sure you are using a suitable washing programme for the level of soiling on your dishes and the quantity of dishes you are washing. It is also important to make sure your dishwasher is not overloaded as this, along with incorrect stacking, can cause poor washing results.
  • Clean on a regular basis. Regularly remove and clean the filters in the base of your dishwasher. Alongside this, regularly remove and rinse the spray arms and clear any blocked nozzles
  • Regularly descale your machine. Descaling a dishwasher is an important step to keeping your appliance clean and functional for longer. We recommend using our specially developed dishwasher limescale and detergent/grease remover on a monthly basis to ensure your dishwasher is working at maximum efficiency.
