Do you really save water by using a dishwasher?

Yes, a dishwasher consumes less water than washing dishes by hand. Some of our dishwashers use as little as 9.5 litres of water to wash up to 14 place settings in a single cycle, whereas according to research by Which?, handwashing dishes will use 63 litres of water to wash 14 place settings.

Is it better to wash dishes by hand or use a dishwasher?

There are several reasons why using a dishwasher is often a better option than washing dishes by hand.

As well as saving water and helping to reduce utility bills, dishwashers heat water more efficiently than handwashing. Beko dishwashers are designed to deliver excellent cleaning results while using only the water and energy needed for the selected programme.

While our water-efficient dishwashers are designed to deliver excellent cleaning results across a wide range of items, some materials are better washed by hand. As a general rule, always check the item is labelled dishwasher safe before placing it inside your appliance.

You should avoid putting the following items in your dishwasher:

Cast iron cookware ‐ The protective coating can be stripped away during a wash cycle, which may lead to rusting.
Non-stick pans ‐ Repeated washing may cause the non-stick coating to deteriorate over time.
Wooden items ‐ Heat and moisture can cause wooden utensils, chopping boards and handles to warp, crack or split.

When in doubt, handwashing delicate or specialist items will help preserve their finish and extend their lifespan.

Do you need to pre-rinse dishes before putting them in a water-saving dishwasher?

No, there's no need to pre-rinse your dishes before loading them into your dishwasher. Your appliance is designed to take care of the cleaning process during the selected programme.

Pre-rinsing under the tap can use extra water unnecessarily. Instead, simply scrape off any large food scraps and load your dishes straight into the machine.

For best results, ensure items are loaded correctly and select the programme that suits the level of soiling.
