How to Install the Water Connection and Water Filter for your American Style Fridge Freezer

If you’ve recently purchased a plumbed Beko American style fridge freezer, you’ll need to install its water connection as well as its in-line water filter. Installing the water connection will ensure you make the most out of your new plumbed refrigeration appliance, by always having cool and refreshing water on tap. Making sure the water filter is installed properly, means you’ll have clean water too, so don’t forget to change your water filter every six months. We’ve put together this how-to guide to help you get cool and refreshing water in no time.

Before you Start

Before we begin, there are just a few items you need to make sure you have ready, to help make installing your fridge freezer’s water connection and in-line water filter easy:

  1. Water supply tap
  2. Connector on the back of your appliance
  3. External water filter with attached water hose
  4. White wall brackets
  5. Tap adapter with porous filter and connector
  6. Black hose clips

Make sure your appliance is unplugged and positioned in a suitable location to fix the external water filter onto the wall.

Connecting the Water Filter to your Appliance

First, you’ll need to connect the water filter to your appliance. Watch the video above to see how to do this. Or, follow these quick and easy steps to find out how to connect the water filter to your plumbed fridge freezer:

  1. Unscrew the connector from the back of your appliance
  2. Note the flow direction on the water filter to make sure it is following the correct flow direction
  3. Feed the top end of the water hose into the connector
  4. Place the hose where the connector was previously positioned
  5. Tighten the connector using your hands or a tool

Securing the Water Filter to the Wall

By securing the water filter to the wall, you’ll help make sure that it’s always in a stable position, keeping the area clean and tidy too. Watch the video above to see how to secure the water filter to the wall. Or, follow these quick and easy steps to find out how to do this:

  1. Clip the white wall brackets to the water filter
  2. Hold the water filter up against the wall, where it will be positioned
  3. With a pencil, mark the locations of where you’ll be screwing in the white wall brackets
  4. Remove the white wall brackets from the water filter and screw these into the marked locations on the wall. Note: Be careful not to drill or screw into anything behind the wall.
  5. Make sure the white wall brackets are securely fastened to the wall
  6. Clip the filter back in, making sure it is following the correct flow direction

Connecting the Water Filter to your Water Supply

Next, you’ll need to connect the water filter to your water supply, to help you access cool and refreshing water on tap. Watch the video above to see how to do this. Or, follow these quick and easy steps to help you connect the water filter to your water supply:

  1. Use the provided tap adaptor bearing in mind the size of your water supply tap. Note: If you have a bigger water supply tap, ensure the porous filter is inside the adaptor.
  2. Detach the connector from the bottom of the tap adaptor and feed the end of the water hose through
  3. Attach the water hose onto the adaptor and tighten the connector using your hands or tools
  4. Use the black hose clips provided to fix the water hose to a nearby wall

Double Check your Connections

After completing all this plumbing, it’s always best to double check the connections you’ve made are secure. Watch the video above to see how to do this. Or, follow these quick and easy steps to help you double check your connections:

  1. Before you turn the water supply back on, place a bucket underneath the water supply tap
  2. Turn the water supply tap on
  3. If you encounter any leaks or drips, turn off the water supply and tighten all the connections using a spanner, pipe wrench, or pliers
  4. Repeat these steps until you don’t encounter any leaks or drips

Filtering Through Water

Now that you’ve double checked all the connections you’ve made, it’s time to filter through the water. It’s always best to do this immediately after you’ve connected a fresh in-line water filter. Watch the video above to see how to do this. Or, follow these quick and easy steps to help you with filtering through the water:

  1. Turn the water supply tap on
  2. Filter through approximately 10 glasses of water to wash the filter out. Note: Do not drink this water.
  3. You may hear some gurgling noises – this is normal and they should go away
